Voice or text: which to choose
What each mode feels like for the person on the other end.

You choose the mode on the brief, per study. It is the way the interview starts, not a lock.
Voice
The interviewer speaks the question and listens. Participants see a speaking and listening state, and a Done speaking control. They can Replay the last question or ask for it to be Rephrased. At any moment the Text / Voice control at the bottom switches them to typing, including when the microphone is blocked.
Voice needs a microphone and a browser that can use it. Audio is transcribed as they speak. The recording itself is not kept; the transcript is.
Text
They read the question and type. Use text when people will answer at a desk, when the subject is something they would rather not say aloud, or when you cannot rely on a microphone. A text study does not offer voice.
