How anonymous responses work

What P01 means, and what is still stored.

Updated September 2026 · 3 min read

Anonymous is a switch, not the only way the product works. New interviews take the workspace default, and you can change it on Launch before the study goes live.

When it is on

Participants are labelled P01, P02 and so on, in the order they finish. The welcome page tells them nothing they say is tied to their name. The CSV export and the conversation list use that code and nothing else. There is no name or email column to add later.

What is still stored

The transcript, the summary, themes, quotes and attribute values are still saved, against the participant code. A cookie in their browser lets them resume the same conversation if they refresh; it is not an account, and it is not shown to you as an identity.

Transcripts and attributes are deleted automatically after your workspace retention period (6, 12 or 24 months). Closing a study stops new responses; it does not delete the ones you already have.
